  1. TAPCIS 5.1c is a rework of the version of TAPCIS which has been
  2. available since 1/9/88.  It contains fixes to a few minor bugs
  3. and adds navigation for the new PC Magazine service, PC MagNet.
  4. v 5.1c.1 fixes a bug when Tap encounters too-long lines online.

  6. The next major upgrade, TAPCIS 6, is scheduled for late
  7. summer/early fall 1988.  It will contain navigation for the
  8. new system software, implementation of B-plus protocol, and
  9. many new features.

  11. If you already have TAPCIS and are not planning on using PC
  12. MagNet, you probably don't want or need the new version.

  14. With this version comes the introduction of TAPCIS's own forum on
  15. CompuServe.  G TAPCIS to get there.  All users of Tap as well as
  16. anyone curious or just looking for a good conversation is
  17. welcomed there, the primary location of TAPCIS support on
  18. CompuServe.

  20. For those downloading this version, there are just a couple of
  21. things you need to know.  If got your CompuServe membership through
  22. PC Magazine, you have a special User ID number which takes you to
  23. a different top page than other CompuServe accounts see.  To get
  24. TAPCIS navigating properly, you'll need to load it as
  25.  "tapcis z"
  26. at the DOS prompt.  See the READ.ME! file in TAPCIS.ARC for
  27. additional command like switches.  The F switch is no longer
  28. needed.

  30. Before unARCing TAPCIS.ARC, be sure to make a backup of your
  31. USERID.CIS and PARAMS.CIS files.  The ARC file contains new ones
  32. for new users.  TAPCIS 5.1b users need only extract TAPCIS.EXE.

  34. TAPDOC.ARC has not changed.  There is no need to download it or
  35. any files other than TAPCIS.ARC if you already have 5.1b and its
  36. documentation.

  38. The PC Mag forums may be named PCM_APPL, PCM_UTIL, PCM_PROG,
  39. PCM_TIPS, and PCM_EDIT or APPLIC, UTILFOR, PROGRAM, TIPS and
  40. EDITOR.  Tap will recognize these names internally, translate
  41. them, and issue the necessary navigation commands.

  43. For your first logon to PC MagNet, you'll need to go manually.
  44. There's a questionnaire that must be answered before access is
  45. granted.  Although it doesn't say so, connect time for this is
  46. free.  After you've set up the Forums on the F>orums page, hit
  47. I>nteractive at the main menu.  When prompted for a Forum, hit
  48. <Enter>.  This will take you to the top CIS page.  At the first
  49. CompuServe prompt, enter G PCMAG.  Fill out the questionnaire and
  50. enter OFF after completing it.  Then, with only the PC MagNet
  51. Forums selected at the main menu, hit Alt-X.  Tap will go online,
  52. join them and set up the defaults.

  54. Registered TAPCIS users take note:  this is a free upgrade.  Stop
  55. by the TAPCIS Forum and leave a message to *SYSOP with the serial
  56. number printed on your distribution disk and the main menu to get
  57. enabled for the registered users' section.  We highly recommend a
  58. download of TAPCIS.ARC as the fastest way to get an upgrade.
  59. Connect time should cost about $4 at 2400 baud, double that at
  60. 1200.  If you'd prefer a mailed copy, have your registration
  61. number handy and call 1-800 USA-GROUP or leave an EasyPlex
  62. message for 74020,10 with a Visa or MC number.  The charge is our
